In case you’re curious, I’m not leaving the hobby. I still use my pens and keep up with events in the pen world, mostly via The Pen Addict newsletter as well as the Goulet Pens and Macchiato Man blogs. From time to time I even think about blogging again. But right now, it’s time for a change.
I’ve had a few less-than-stellar experiences with Montblanc lately and have decided to sell down most of them, though I’m keeping a few sentimental favourites. The straw that broke the camel’s back was when a Montblanc marketer from the UK flat out lied to me. It was documented and I made a complaint, but I was ignored. Not even a response to say they received the email that I sent several times.
Around the same time, I sent a Classic to Graf von Faber-Castell for servicing. I’d damaged the feed and they replaced it, for free, no questions asked. Even shipped it back express (also free). I had a heap of space credits that I’d put aside for a new MB Masters of Meisterstuck and decided to redirect those to a GvFC Pen of the Year. That turned out to be an excellent decision: it’s a truly fine pen. A few weeks ago, I showed it to a colleague who promptly purchased a POTY of their own. I might be adding another before the year is out.
So for the last six months, my Montblancs have been collecting dust while I’ve used my GvFCs and my Omas. The MBs are good pens with good nibs and they deserve to be in the hands of someone who will use them. So have a look at what’s available and let me know if anything catches your eye.
