The Collection

Last year, I posted about my plan to limit myself to ten nice pens and, since then, I’ve had plenty of people get in touch to say they’re imposing their own limits – sometimes more than ten, sometimes less – and talking about their experiences. Just as often, I have people asking how I manage my collection and the decision about which pens to keep or sell. While I wouldn’t say it’s an organised system, there is an approach that I use and I’ll share it in today’s post.

A Grail Pen Update

Since my last post on the grail pen, I’ve had a few people asking whether I’ve pulled the trigger and the answer (so far) is no. Partly because it’s a monumental amount of money and I haven’t quite come to terms with that, but it’s also partly because the pen was discontinued shortly after that post was published. One of the more perplexing things about our community is the lengths that some members will go to in order to support the firms which provide for us and sustain the hobby – the manufacturers, distributors, and retailers – but some of those very same members will dig the boot into one particular brand, Montblanc, without hesitation. The Value of a Pen

Recently, I’ve been considering the purchase of a new pen. There’s nothing unusual in that, except that this particular pen is what you might consider an ultra high-end purchase and easily worth more than the rest of my collection combined. The Outright Stupidity of Montblanc

By now, you’ve probably heard that I decided to pick a fight with the Fountain Pen Network (FPN) by calling them out for their rather weak submission to Montblanc’s request that they censor posts on the site, an act that turns out to be standard practice for their admins. In today’s post, I continue in that fine tradition and pick a fight with Montblanc for being stupid enough to make that request in the first place.
